When importing content from file share, do we have to have Office installed on the server hosting the Sharegate Desktop in order for the Properties extraction feature to work? I am running a pre-check with the option is enabled from Setting and am seeing a lot of warnings "The properties could not be extracted from the file"...

    Hi Phu,

Property extraction does not require that you have Office apps installed on your machine. There could be a number of reasons why the extraction would not work.

To better help you, I opened a ticket with our support team. They will get back to you as soon as they can.

    Best regards,

    Hi Rima,

If the property extractor cannot read the metadata within a file, it gets migrated with the value from the file share, and you will find a warning in your Migration report.

You can get errors though, for instance you could be migrating to a library with a choice column that doesn't contain the metadata value as one of the options and does not allow fill-in-choices. In this case the migration report will return an error and the item will not be migrated.

Metadata errors can be addressed in most cases.
