Copying workflows makes them available on the destination site. Review the general information section of this article to ensure that the type of workflow you want to copy is supported.
You can migrate workflows from SharePoint 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and SharePoint for Microsoft 365.
Prerequisites
- You have site collection admin permissions on your source and destination site collections.
Note: Site collection admin permissions are required even if you have higher admin privileges like SharePoint admin or Global admin permissions. For more information click here.

How-To
- Click Copy.
- Select Copy structure and content.
- Add your source credentials.
- Click Connect.
- Select your source.
- Click Next.
- Add you destination credentials.
- Click Connect.
- Select your destination.
- Click Next.
- Select Workflows
from the list of Site Objects.
- Select the workflow(s) you want to copy from the source.
- Drag and drop it into the destination or click
in the bottom right corner. See Copy Options if you need to apply specific parameters.
- Once the action is completed, the migration report will show any successes, warning, or errors. See Migration Report for more details.
General Information On Copying Workflows
- You can copy reusable workflows and site workflows.
- List workflows and content type workflows are copied when you copy their associated list or content type.
- Your workflows are automatically deactivated during the migration and reactivated when the migration is completed.
- The only supported workflows are the built-in SharePoint workflows, the ones created with SharePoint Designer, and Nintex Workflows. Globally Reusable Workflows are not supported.
- Workflows from the SharePoint 2010 Platform type can be migrated to any version of SharePoint (2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and M365) and will work at your destination.
- ShareGate Desktop does not transform them to the SharePoint 2013 Platform at this time.
- SharePoint 2013 workflows migrated to 2013, 2016, 2019, and M365 will work at your destination.
- ShareGate Desktop supports full migration of Nintex Workflows OnPremises to OnPremises SharePoint versions (2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019), full migration of Nintex Workflows M365 to M365, and will support incrementally all the migration from OnPremises to M365. Learn more.
