The Server Extension is an optional component that can be installed on your SharePoint server to provide you with additional functionality to preserve certain values or features when running a migration.
Note: The server extension cannot be installed in Microsoft 365. However, it is highly recommended to install it on any on-premises SharePoint servers you use ShareGate Desktop on. For example, when installed in an on-premises source for a Microsoft 365 migration, the extension will help package your information which can reduce the strain on Microsoft 365 and lower the potential for throttling.
Before installing the Server Extension, ensure that:
- You have administrative rights on your SharePoint server.
- The SharePoint server is .NET framework 3.5 or higher.
- You need to preserve one of the values on this list, and/or that you are running a migration from SharePoint 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 with Insane mode.
- Read and understand the security considerations associated with the Server Extension.
Note: If you have more than one front-end server, the Server Extension must be installed on each one.
